The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Bellwood is now accepting applications for the position of: Entry Level Police Officer


The Bellwood Police Department’s mission is to promote, reserve and deliver a sense of security, safety and quality services to all members of the community and those who pass within their borders.  The Police Department is divided into four divisions:  Operations/Patrol, Investigative, Service and Community Policing.  The Police Department offers stable leadership and growth opportunities with the Chief of Police at the Department for 34 years and in the Chief position for 10 years.


Testing is being conducted for multiple hiring needs and to establish an Eligibility List for future hiring needs

2024 Starting Salary: $57,580.01

1st year: $82,083.83

2nd year: $86,186.10

3rd year: $90,322.40

4th year: $102,603.96

Over 20 years:  $104.913.13

Contract expires: 12-31-24 


Job Requirements:



You must meet the following minimum requirements:


  • Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.

  • Age Requirement:  Applicant must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (5/1/24). Must be under the age of 35 years on 5/1/24 and when Final Eligibility Register is posted unless they have been certified and employed as a Full-Time Law Enforcement Officer for a municipality in the United States or are otherwise exempt by State Statutes 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6

  • Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.

  • Residence:  At time of hire, must reside within the State of Illinois.


Please understand that the Village of Bellwood will incur significant costs in the processing of employment application and training required for this position.

In the event an Officer of the Police Department resigns voluntarily within the first two years of employment, for the Village of Bellwood they shall be required to reimburse the community for any and all cost associated with the following:

Cost of Psychological Testing

Cost of Polygraph Test

Cost of Pre-employment Physical

Cost of Police Academy

Cost of Field Training
