The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Belvidere is now accepting applications for the position of Entry Level Police Officer
Testing is being conducted for an anticipated immediate need to hire and to establish a new eligibility list for future hiring needs.
Certified Officers are encouraged to apply with the possibility of a Lateral Transfer with an opportunity for an adjusted starting salary.
The Belvidere Police Department currently has 44 sworn officers and serves a community of 26,000 citizens within the City of Belvidere. They are a progressive agency with highly motivated officers that work with the community to provide a safe living, learning and working environment to all citizens and visitors.
Starting Salary: $61,431.13
Job Requirements:
You must meet the following minimum requirements:

Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States

Driver’s License: Must have a valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.

Age Requirement: 21 years of age or older at the time of application (6/7/23); age 20 if they have successfully completed two years of law enforcement study at an accredited college or university; under age 35 on last date of application (6/7/23) unless they have been certified and employed as a Full-Time Law Enforcement Officer for a municipality in the United States or are otherwise exempt by State Statutes 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.

Education: Must have proof of a high school diploma, or GED Certificate or high school proficiency statement.

Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.

Residence: Officers must reside within a 25-mile radius of the Public Safety Building (615 N. Main Street) within one year following the successful completion of their one-year probationary period.

Testing: Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing (written, physical agility, oral interview, medical, polygraph and psychological)

Attention: Applicants who possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Card from a certified testing agency, issued between the dates of 3/9/23 and 6/7/23 will be exempt from taking the Physical Ability Test on the day of testing. ALL other applicants must take the Physical Ability Test on the day of testing.
