 Boone County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of:  Deputy Sheriff


Boone County Sheriff’s Office patrols all of Boone County with a land mass of approximately 288 square miles.  The Sheriff is in charge of the constitutional and statutory responsibilities of enforcing federal and state laws, as well as local county ordinances within the unincorporated areas of the county.  The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is housed in the Public Safety Building in Belvidere, IL.  The Boone County Sheriff’s Office offers advanced training and opportunities such as SWAT, Drone Operators, Drug Enforcement, K9, Federal & State Taskforces, Accident Reconstruction, School Resource Officer, Hostage Negotiators, Crime Scene Investigators, Truck Enforcement and General Case Detectives.  All deputies who live within Boone County are issued a take home squad. 


Testing is being conducted for an immediate need to hire and to establish an Eligibility List for anticipated future hiring needs.

Starting Salary: $52,249.00

Job Requirements:

You must meet the following minimum requirements:


  • Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Driver’s License:  Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain an Illinois driver’s license at the time of appointment to the Department

  • Age Requirement:  Must have attained their 21st birthday at the last date of filing applications (7/13/22).

  • Education:  Must have a High School Diploma, GED or High School Proficiency Certificate

  • Character:  Applicant must not have any felony convictions nor have any serious misdemeanors (set by Illinois State Statute)

  • Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing including  a strenuous physical agility – P.O.W.E.R. Test

  • Vision:  Vision must be correctable to 20/20 in each eye

  • Residency:  Within 30 days after completion of probationary period, must reside within 21 mines of the Public Safety Building (615 North State St, Belvidere, IL)
