The Board of Police Commissioners for the Village of Elburn is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer
Testing is being conducted to establish an Eligibility List for future hiring needs
The Village of Elburn is located in picturesque Kane County and is approximately 45 miles from downtown Chicago. With its small-town character and growing population, the Village of Elburn offers an abundant opportunity to residents and businesses. The community has convenient shopping and entertainment nearby. Additionally, there is easy access to the City of Chicago by way of the Metra train (UP West line) that starts/terminates in Elburn.
Starting Salary: $72,277.30 (as of 05/01/25)
*Certified Officers with a minimum of two (2) years experience will receive a starting salary of $74,807.00
*Certified Officers with five (5) or more years of experience will receive a starting salary of $78,547.35
*Certified Officers with eleven (11) or more years of full-time experience will receive a starting salary of $81,100.14
Top Patrol Officer pay as of 05/01/25 will be $90,349.99
Job Requirements:
You must meet the following minimum requirements:

Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or an individual who has permanent resident status and is legally authorized to work in the United States. Must under federal law, be authorized to obtain, carry, purchase, or otherwise possess a firearm.

Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.

Age Requirement: Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (3/19/25) Applicants must be under the age of 35 years old at the last date of filing applications (3/19/25) AND at such time as Final Eligibility Register is posted, unless they have been certified and employed as a full-time police officer for a municipality in the United States or are otherwise exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.

Education: Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.

Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character.

Residence: Officers employed by the Village of Elburn will be required to live within 40 miles of the Elburn Police Department at the completion of their probationary employment period.

FOID Card: Must have a valid FOID by the time of final eligibility list.

Testing: Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing which may include, but not limited to a written examination, oral interview, extensive background investigation, and post-offer psychological, physical, and drug screen.
Applicants who have been awarded a certificate attesting to their successful completion of the minimum standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course, as provided in the Illinois Police Training Act, may be given preference in appointment over non-certified applicants.
