The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the position of

Corrections Officers and  Deputy Sheriffs


Testing is being conducted for an immediate need to hire

new Corrections Officers and to establish

an eligibility list for future hiring


Winnebago County Corrections Officers are under the authority and supervision of the Winnebago County Sheriff.  A Corrections Officer is primarily responsible for supervision of inmates within his/her assigned area.  A Corrections Officer participates in the day-to-day operations of the jail which includes but not limited to: booking and releasing inmates, classification, control stations, maintaining security of the facility, escorting offenders within or outside the secure confines of the jail, and supervising inmates in their assigned housing unit.  Corrections Officers must communicate effectively with a varied population of offenders, including individuals from diverse ethnic, racial, cultural and economic backgrounds.


Starting Salary: 

Corrections Officer $43,515.00 ($20.47/hourly)


Job Requirements:


You must meet the following minimum requirements:


Citizenship:  Must be  a U.S. Citizen

Driver’s License:  Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon hiring.

Age Requirements:  Must have attained their 21st birthday at the time of the last date for filing applications (8/22/18).

Education:  Must have a High School Diploma, GED, or High School Proficiency Certificate.

Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character.

Testing:  Must be able to participate and successfully complete all phases of testing.

Residency: Must be an Illinois resident and live within 20 air miles of the Winnebago Justice Center within one year of employment.

FOID Card:  Must possess or have the ability to obtain an Illinois Fire Arms Identification Card prior to employment.
